Meet your hosts: Tanya and Mike

Tanya and Mike are more than just hosts – they are custodians of a way of life rooted in the rich soil and warm waters of northern Nova Scotia. Tanya’s family originates from Central New Annan, and she spent countless summers in the Tatamagouche area, helping her grandparents on their farm and swimming in the Northumberland Strait, local swimming holes and falls. Those childhood memories inspired a deep connection to the land, the tides and the tight-knit community that still thrives here today. When Tanya and Mike discovered an opportunity to restore a century-old house overlooking the water, they knew it was their chance to share this special place with guests.

Their Tatamagouche vacation rental is not just a getaway; it’s an invitation to experience the North Shore life. Tanya recalls mornings picking berries in the fields and evenings around a crackling fire, where stories where shared by of a time not that long ago. Mike, who grew up in rural Ontario, immediately felt a spiritual bond with the area and people. Together they have poured that love of land and sea into every detail of their home, from the farm-to-table welcome basket filled with local produce to the handcrafted decor made by artisans from Tatamagouche and surrounding area.

The couple’s philosophy is simple: create a space where travelers feel grounded and connected. When guests arrive, they are greeted with local products and treats . Walking through the property, you’ll find notes about their favourite hiking trails, directions to the Tatamagouche Farmers’ Market, and suggestions for kayaking or paddle-boarding on the Northumberland Strait. Tanya often shares stories of her ancestors who farmed these lands, weaving tales of resilience and community that make the area’s history come alive.

By sharing these stories and personal experiences, Tanya and Mike hope to foster a deeper appreciation for the land and a sense of belonging that stays with you long after your vacation ends.

From the moment you arrive at Taty’Mac House, you become part of a story that spans generations. Whether you’re drawn to the area for its pet‑friendly accommodations, its vibrant arts scene or the simple beauty of rural Nova Scotia, Tanya and Mike will welcome you with warmth and authenticity. Their dream is to build a community of guests who return year after year, forging their own connections with Tatamagouche, just as Tanya’s family has done for decades.
